SIR OLIVER LEESE VISITS OTAKI
Among the visitors to Otaki on Wednesday were General Sir Oliver Leese, commander of the Eighth Army at Alamein, and Lady Leese, who have been the guests of the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg. The distinguished visitors were accompanied by Mr. Hudson, of the Department of Agriculture, an'd a representative of the Department of Internal Affairs. After a 'visit to Levin they made a call on Mr. E .T. Bartosh, an enthusiastic' market gardener, discussing various problems of interest to market gardeners. General Leese is an enthusiast in agriculture. A visit was made to Mr. Victor Bertlesen's garden,' where they were shown over the establishment. General Leese expressed pleasure at the manner in which gardening was being carried out. He was enthusiastic over the machinery used and commended Mr. Bertlesen on his fine work. Mr. and Mrs. Bertlesen entertained the visitors at afternoon tea, an'd after a very pleasant afternoon the party left for Wellington shortly afer 3 p.m. delighted with their visit and all they saw. While in Otaki the visitors were shown the Maori Church and expressed surprise at the wonderful work dnne in its erpr.tinrL
