Voting in the by-election for the fTartley: seat in the Neiv South Wales Legislative AsKcmbly shoived a twelve per eent. swing from Labour since the Federal elections' last year, Hartley is a Labour stronghold which ineludes the entire westem coalfields, the shale oil project and the industrial eentres of Litiigow and I'ortland. It" is included in tlie Alacquario Federal electorate represented -by ATr. (^hifley. The figures when eounting ceased last niaht were: J. Chalmers (Labour) 7124 H. C'ottten (Liberal) 4722 Alexander (Ind. Labour) ... 1438 Liberal supporters claim a swing of 12.0 per eent. and p'oint out tbat a swing of 9 per eent. caused a landslide in Victoria.
