TWO MEN ARRESTED IN ACT OF BLOWING SAFE
WELLIXGTON, Dec. 7. Elaborate preparations to blow open the safe of the Lower Hutt post ofHce were abandoned shortly after 4 o'cloek this fnorning when the Imilding was visited by a police patrol ear. Two men were arrested. ('oriRtai)les W. J. Hooker and A. AlcLean found that the safe door had oeen packed with geiignite and detona-to-rs and a long t'use 'was apparently on the point oi being set off when the police arrived. Kntry had been gained through tlie back door which was found forced open with a jemmy. CHARGED AND REMANDED As a sequel to the police discovery of two intruders in the Lower Hutt post ofRce at 4 o'clock on Sunday morning, Roy Vincent, 31, barman and barber, and Robt. Spring, 21, labourer, appeared in the Magistrate's Court this morning charged with breaking and entering the counting house of the Lower Hutt post office. They were remanded to December 16. Bait was refused.
