DISTRICT REHABILITATION

LEVIN COMMITTEE MEETS The Levin Rehabilitation Committee held its final meeting of the year on Thursday night. There were present: Mr. H. J. Lancaster (chairman), Mrs. C. Bartholomew and Messrs. W. Batten, J. Corbishley, G. . H. Kerslake, G. C. Rae (rehabilitation officer) and G. Barclay (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr. H. J. McLeavey.. ' Before the business commenced the chairman referred to the passing since the last meeting of the I committee of Mr. L. G. Lowry, of ! Otaki, who, as M.P. for the district, | had been a member of the comI mittee in its early 'days. A motion J of sympathy was passed with Mrs. Lowry and family in their bereaveI ment.

The finance sub-commiuee reported having recommended to the Rehabilitation Department for approval flve housing loans of a total value of £7505 and three business .loans aggregating £1550. Seven furniture loans of £100 each had also been recommended, two applications for new motor vehicles and seven applications for tools from Rehabilitation Department tool stores. These decisions were confirmed by the committee. The committee received two applications for State houses in Levin and one in Foxton. These were added to the list. There were no applications for State houses in Shannon or Otaki. No houses were received for allocation in any of the four .tawns.

The farming sub-committee reoorted that it was holding a meetmg later in the month for gradLng ex-servicemen applicants for farms. The next meeting was fixed for Wednesday, January 21. In concluding the meeting, the chairman thanked members for the manner in which they had carried out their work during the year. Mr. Lancaster said that as more ex-servicemen were rehabilitate'd so the activities of the committee eased, but there would be a need for it to continue for some time yet. He extended seasonal greetings to members and these were reciprocated.
