R. Walker, of Fernleigh i Avenue, Mt. Albert, on Saturday. j He was working in. the school holidays in Hellaby's meatworks at ! Otahuhu and had his arm injured ( in a machine. He was a prominent athlete of the Mt. Albert j Grammar School. Selfish Thefts Needless and wanton pilfering j without thought for other people | seems to be the description of j some minor thefts which have i occurred near /Woodville recently. ! Extensive road"" works are being : carried out on the main Masterton ! highway, but on two recent nights \ five • warning lamps have been ! removed from their positions in ' front of a culvert, to the conse- i quent danger of motorists. Another has been damaged. The lamps cast a red glow, and it is j difficult to imagine any use that I they could be put to by the cul- i prit. { j Choral Presentation There has been a frequent complaint that Levin is lacking in good j entertainment, and that there is a i dearth of good music. However | correct or otherwise that may ] be, it is certainly not the case at present. Local talent and visiting soloists offer a special music treat at the Century Hall on Thursday, when the combined church choirs, under the direction of Mr. F. H. Baumber, will present the sacred cantata, "Bethlehem." This work has won highest commendation and the choirs are sparing no eifort to give a worthy presentation.
