LABOUR OFFICIAL'S PRAISE FOR COMMUNIST HELP
GREYMOUTH, Nov. 29. In a Ktatement issued this morning Mr. W. Sullivan, National Member ot Parliament for Bay of Plenty, repheci to the denial of Ylr. A. J. AIcDonalcl (National seeretary of the Labour Partw) that lie (Mr. VIcDonald) liad spoken in glowing terms of the assistan'ce given by Communists to the LaPuur Party. Mr. Hullivan stated that it was ar Ihe Labour Party ccmfereiice in 1940 that Mr. McDontUd had stated that the Communists had assisted tlre Labour c-andidates in the 1943 election, and had done a good job alongside tlie tnembers of the Laliour Party. This statement had Iteen reported in tlie f7aT)our Party 's newspaper, t-he Standard. "It would be a gretit pity, " .Mr. Sul■livau said,. "it' Mr. McDonald had been reported ineorreetly by his own party 's [lublieation. ' ' Aiuplifying his origiual statement M r. Suliivan said the most ardent workers for the Labour Party w^ere and always had been, the Communists. That was the caae in Westland, too.
