Quite unintentionally the magnetic tfuck which is in the course of a provincial highway sweep to remove tyre-damaging nails and metall scraps from the roads began ' locating the fire plugs soon after it started in the town. The powerful j olectro-magnet, which will attracti and hold a weight of 2i cwt.J swiftly drew to the surface every . concealed hydrant top over which j it passed. In a small section of j the town six of the "vanishing"1 plugs shot into view, their position j to be cleared marked by a surpris-l ed but delighted member of the: fire brigade. j
