BOROUGH COUNCIL'S TRIBUTE

THE LATE MR. LOWRY AND MR. RYDER At the special meeting of the Otaki Borough Council last week feeling reference was made to the passing of the late Mr. L. G. Lowry and the late Mr. F. J. Ryder, both of whom had at one time been members of the council. The Mayor, Mr. C. F. Atmore, said that Mr. Lowry had served on the council from 1933-35. The Mayor moved a resolution expressing regret at his passing and sympathy with Mrs. Lowry and family. Cr. E. T. Bartosh spoke of the activities of Mr. Lowry, whom he had known for years. He was a member of the bowling club and a good sport generally, while in Parliament he was held in high esteem by both parties. Cr. E. J. Cook also paid tribute to Mr. Lowry, regarding him as one of Otaki's most respected citizens. All present stood in silence as a mark of respect to his memory. The Mayor said that the late Mr. Ryder had been a member of the council from 1935 to 1939, and was a valued member of the works committee. He was well-known throughout the district and highly respected. He had lived in Otaki for many years. He moved that the council's sympathy be extended to his relatives. Cr. Cook seconded the motion, adding that Mr. Ryder had done good work on the council. The motion was carried in silence, all standing.
