OTAKI MARCHING TEAM
FIRST PUBLIC APPEARANCE The Otaki girls' marching team was seen in action on Friday night, whe nthere was a large and inrerested crowd to watch them go through their manoeuvres. XJnder Mr. H. N. Fearnley the ShL have made rapid strides, and with such a coach they are indeed iortunate, while in having Miss Doreen Bills as leader the team is doubly fortunate. This young lady acted most capably, and the manner in which members of the team went through their marching exercises was most creditable. Falling in at the Druids' HalJ i.hw girls marched in flne style along Aotaki Street into Main Street, headed by the Otaki Brass 3and. On entering Main Street the team received a warm reception and as they they marched up and down the street they received furtner applause. Dressed in neat nayy blue and white dresses, Wxi>h rosettes— ' blue and - gold— they were certainly attractive. On all sides the girls and those in charge received hearty congratulations. The Otaki Brass Band, under the conductorship of Band'master Dennison, played several selections in a masterly manner, and as a result of a collection received the sum of £10 4s towards their funds. The bandsmen are also to be congratulated on the progress made. As a result of the shop day, held in the town and at t-he Railway, the sum of £67 10s was raisea toi the marching teams uniforms. Competitions were won by L. Barrett, Mrs. Kear, Mrs. Penny, Miss Milne and Marie Cootes.
