LEVIN'S' MONTHLY MEETING The November meeting of the Levin Women's institute was held recently and was very well attertd-. ed. Members and frien'ds y^ere welcomed by the president, Mrs., Rellaway, Four new members were enroiled. Mrs.- Trotmanc the reporting •delegate at the half-yearly meeting in Te HoiQ, gave an excellent repor-t of th© day's. proceedings, and was" accorded a hearty- vote of thanks. Members wei:e reminded of the hpal cqllection of produce this year for t,he Y.W.C.A.'s shop in WeiUngton to, assist its building fund/ It'was announced that the Christmas cakes for the institute 's' link in Surrey, England, had. been posted, while Mesdames Ljeaeh and Spencer yolnnteered to, pack a' pa'rc'el of foodstuffs for the same purpose; There ■ was a fhie display of gifts for the christmas party to be held on December 4 at the Levin' Farm; institutes of the district, including Levin, were responsible fo'r this displ.ay and also several'cash dO'nations-. A competition for ' overseas parcels, the prize for which was donated by Mrs. Maugham, was won by Mrs. Rankin: ■ Arrangements were finalised for 'members to yisit Massey College. Horn, one of the New Zealand deiegates, and it proved most interesting, The roll call, "Household Hints,"' was very good and greatly enjoyed. The monthly competitions were won as follows: — Shrubs: Mrs. Blake 1, Mrs. Trotman 2, Mrs. Mapgharn 3. Flowers: Mrs. Hyde i, Mrs. Kellaway 2, Mrs. Watson 3Christmas novelty: Mrs. Trotman. Bottled fruit: Mrs. Mearing. Lettuce: Mrs. Sharp. Members were advised that a demonstration on mop making would be held in the rest room on Wednesday next at 2.30 p.m., and were invited to attend. Members conducted the monthly meeting of the Kimberley Women's Institute, held recently. The attendance was small, Mrs. Neas occupied the chair and Mrs. Gilbert acted as secretary. A welcome was extended to members and visitors. Apologies for absence were received. from Mesdames Saint and Aitchison. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late" Mrs. Death was passed, all present standing in silence. An invitation was received from the Levin Jnnior Institnte to its birthday party at 8 p,.m. on Novem* ber 29. A letter was read from Mr. P. J. Twomey, of the Lepers' Trust Board, thanking the institute for a donation to ihe fund for lepers. All arrangemen.ts were finalised for the Christmas party at the Levin, Farrn on December 4. Mrs. Cou,lson gave a splendid, report on a recent council meeting at Te Horo; the president thanked her and she was accorded a vote of thanks. During the afternoon] Mrs. Campbell contributed a pianoforte medley of songs, while two social competitions were won by Mrs. Evans and Rev. A. Salmond. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Peterson, Kissane and Neas. Two members were presented with flowers the occasion being the birthday of one and the wedding anniversary of the other. Rev. A. Salmond was then introdueed to the meeting and he ^ave a very interesting talk on farming in the South Island, Australia, Samoa and Gerrnany, relating humorous incidents that caused amusement among members. Mrs. Eyans moved a vote of thanks to Mr. Salmond and it was carried by acclamation. The usual competitions were won •as,. / fohows: — Flower: .
