COUNTY COUNCIL'S TRIBUTE

THE LATE MR. F. J. RYDER Councillors and execu.ti.ve officers paid trihute to the late Mr. F. J. Ryder at a meeting of the Horowhenua, County Council on Frjday, The chairman, Mr. A. J. Gimblett, said that Mr. Ryder was eieeted to the council as member for the Otaki Riding in 1916, and had served Withont a break until retiring in May, 1941. He had .always been a man one could look UP to. He was sincere and true, and had been a friend to anyone. Mr.. Ryder had eome to Otaki some time in the 'eighties. He had served on the Otaki River Board, Otaki Borough Council and the Palmerston North Hospital Board. Cr.. A- M- Atkins said that he had known the late Mr-. Ryder for many years, and had always been proud to call him his friend. He had given a won'derful contribu.tion to the progress of New Zealand. • Cr. W. G. Taylor spoke of the high- esteem in which Mr. Ryder was held by the people of -the Horo whenua district... Mr. F, H. Hudson, the county elerfe, expressed his groat sorrow at the passing of one of his old* est friends. He would always remember th,e cheerful jknd fearless' way in which Mr. Ryder had tackled the work he had to do. Cr. W. Jenkins paid a tribute to Mr. Ryder and said that there had. peen nothing too much for him to do. He had always been willing to help in any way he could. The couneil expressed its deep-r est sympathy to Mr. Ryder's relatives.
