JOSTLING MEN AND WOMEN SEEKING BREAD

Received Thursday, 8.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Nov. 6. Over 2000 fighting and jostling men, women and children tried to break down the large wooden gates today to get hread' at a bakery in the siiourh of Kingsford. The police, who ipiickly arrived, had to call for reinl'orcenients to control the excited crowd. A queue broke into disorder when a number of people who had been waiting for hours, hegan pushing the gates. An elderly woman and young children were jamrned against the gates and many were in danger of being crashed. The police controlled ( the crowd and allowed a dozen people into the bakery at a time. The queue hegan from 5.30 a.m. and some honrs later the lane was choked with over 2000 people. In other suburhs there were queues up to half a niiie long. The strikers have threatened to establiih picket lines hut so far this has not been done.
