There was a large attendance of the public and a coilection taken up in aid of the food for Britain drive netted £12 * 12s 5d. Three band§ were present, the Horowhenua Pipe Band, Levin Boys' Band and Municipal Band. The four girls' marching teams taking part were Macduffs', Caledonian, K.B.H. and the newlyformed Alpine team. , Macduffs gave the first marching display, the music being provided by the Levin Municipal Band, which played "The. March of the Herald." This was followed by a selection by .the Boys*' Band, "Friends and Comrades." The Alpine team, newcomers to marching, were then seen in a dispday to the music of the Pipe Band,. and they were followed by K.B.H., the Municipal Band playing "Arethusa." ?Finally came the Cst^edonian marching team and Pfpe Band in a combined exhibition. \ /At the conclusion of the sports;, the president of the club, Mr. fWv Cribb, extended his thanks to the» bands, marching teams and all who» had helped to make the evening a successful one. Mr. Cribb congratulated the Levin Municipal Band on its recent' success at the contest in Palmerston North. He then introduced the patron of the club, the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin. ■ ti Mr. .Burdekin thanked all present for their attendance at the function and explained that the proceeds would go to the food for Britain campaign. There would be in the next few. weeks . an' intense campaign to raise £500 to purchase food in bulk, he saicL This would be sent to three industrial towns in Britain, Birmingham in England, Glasgow in Scotland and Cardiff in Waies. Mr. Burdekin appealed for a good response to this effort before the British winter set in. "I would like you to remember that 'He who gives quickiy, gives twice," he added. The function was then transferred to a vacant section in Queen Street, where a bonfire was lit and fireworks distributed free to the children. Rockets, crackers and multi-coloured "fizzers" lit up the scene and with the glow from the fire made a very colgurful display. Crackers were thrown about among the crowd, where they exploded to the consternation of the person at whose feet they landed. The children formed a "fighting throng" around the boxes of fireworks, nearly all of them managing to get at least three or four.
