Personal Constable W. A. Calwell left today for the north on holiday. Tomato Growing It is reported that one tomato grower in Otaki will have 20,000 plants this season. Aero Club Field Da r The Wellington Aero Club's first post- war field day will be held at Paraparaumu on November 23. Frosts Do Harm The frost on Saturday night was light as far as Otaki was concerned, and commercial gardeners suffered only to a 'minor degree. At Manakau, however, the frost was much heavier, and did considerable damage to tender plants. Vegetables from Otaki According to a prominent commercial grower in Otaki', lorries take daily to Wellington about 45 tons of vegetables, while it is estimated that another twelve tons go from Manakau. These figures are apart from the loads taken to Palmerston North. Sports at Otaki The first evening athletic and cycling sports for this season will be held on the OtakL Domain on Wednesday evening. Races for children will start at 6.15 p.m. As the programme is a varied one, it is ■expected that competition will be keen and be watched 'wth interest by a large number of spectators.
