In a thrilling 'finish Beau Gem, tlie South Australian colt, defeatea Chanak hy half a head in the Vic- - toria Derby at t,he V.R.C. spring meeting. After his win in the W- S. - Cox Plate at Moonee Valley last Saturday Chanak had been the popular ehoice and he started a fimi, favoiirite. Valiant Crown, who lod all the way to wili the A.J.C.
