POROUTAWHAO SCOUTS
FIRST SOCIAL EVENING MOST SUCCESSFUL ' \ On Satufday night the newlyfornied Poroutawhao Scout Group held its first social in the Public Hall. Visiting scouts Were present from Levin, Foxton and Palmerston North, while Scout Headquarters were represented by Comm'issioner Martin, Mrs. Martin and CUbmaster Reynolds, all of whom were welcomed by Mr. P. A. Lin-r yard. As is customary in entertainments of this type, the Scouts and Cubs were seated on logs round a . camp-fire. The pro.ceedings were opened with a welcome haka by Scouts and the "Grand Howl" by the Cubs, followed by a varied programme of songs, recitations, instrumental items and choruses. the following contributing: Jim Tait, Jim Jamieson, Graeme Linyard, Peter Tennant, Bob Graham, Tony Kilsby, Alex. Tatana, Earl Green, Gary MeLennan, Jim Davison, A. ' Collett and two visiting Foxton Scouts. Patrol Leader Tennant presenteek an unusual item in the form of lightning sketches depicting various incidents connected with Scout activities in the group. His sketches were highly meritorious and were accompanied by a humorous running commentary, much to the amusement of an appreciative audience. An interesting interlude, consisting of talsk on the jamboree, was given by Scouts B. Allwood, Small and T. Hudson, of Levin, and Scout Martin, of Palmerston North. Congratulations and thanks are due to Scoutmaster Gudgeon, Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster, Mrs. and Mr. Green, for the arranging and planning of the programmcv and to Mrs. Tait, who played the accompaniments and also provided music for the dance which followed the dispensing of supper. •
