ROYAL SHOW CHAMPIONS
HOROWHENUA SUCCESSES With record entries, the first post-war Royal Show was opened on the Tomoana Showgrounds, Hastings, today in fine but dull weather. Exhibitors from all over the Dominion were represented in most classes and competent stock judges commented favourably on j the standard shown. The entries 'were 969 in excess of those at the last Royal Show in Hawke's Bay in ! 1935, the totals heing 5511 this J year and 4542 in 1935. A record ' crowd is anticipated tomorrow, !People's Day. i Several ribbons will come to the i Horowhenua district. Messrs. I Allan Horn and Sons (Levin) won ;the champion Jersey hull award, | and the senior and junior chamIpion groups, while Messrs. H. J. 'Lancaster and Son (Levin) the jreserve champion cow. In the Ayrshire sectipn the reserve cow7 1 championship went to Mr. M. M. jMoffatt (Foxton) and the reserve bull t'o Mr. D. L. Corrigan (Te iHoro). Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Morris | (Tokomaru) annexed the junior
cow championship for Milking Shorthorns. General awards were won by district breeders as follows: — Ayrshires: Mr. M. M. Moffatt, one first and one third; Ivlr. D. L. Corrigan, one second. Friesians: Mr. R. W. Horne (Levin) , one second and two thirds. Milking Shorthorns: Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Morris, one first. Jerseys: Messrs. H. J. Lancaster and Son, four firsts and one second; Messrs. Allan Horn and Sons, four firsts, one second and two thirds. Grade dairy cattle: Messrs. Allan Horn and Sons, two thirds. Southdown sheep: Mr. G~. W. Munford (Shannon), one first, one second and one third.
