PEAK PRICE FOR FAT EWES

WEEKLY SALE IN LEVIN There'" was a large yarding of fat cattle at the Levin sale yesterday, when" quality vealers and extra prime heifers met with keOn butchers' competition. P. A. vealers came forward in the choicest quaiities seen for some months. Thpse sold to £9 12s 6d, while extra prime heii'ers made £18 7s 6d. Some well grown prime two-year-old oxen realised from £19 7s 6d to £19 12s 8d, while in the station cattle section 4-year-steers made £16 17s, 3year £13 8s and 2-year £9 7s. P.A. and Hereford' cows, running with bull, brought £10 2s. » »Dairy cattle sold very well, springing heifers making up to £17 10s and young springing cows £16 10S. Two-year-old service bulls realised up to £18, while yearlings ranged from £8 15s to £12 10s. Pigs were in over-supply, but there was a .recession in values, extra prime porkers making tp £5 ls and extra prime baconers to £6 12s.- Store pigs sold well up to £3 19s. The fat wether yarding was shorter than usual and values consequently. appreciated on last week's rates. Prime heavy shorn wethers brought 44s 4d, while /51s lOd'was top price for woolly wethers in the same condition. Ewes were also in short supply and reached the season's peak ai 46s 4d. Prime spring lambs made up to 42s lOd and medium sorts sold from 37s lOd to 39s lOd. The following is a range of prices sealised: — Sheep: Prime fat wethers, 48s 4d to 51s lOd; medium do., 45s 4d to 47s lOd; light do., 39s 4d to 42s; prime fat ewes, 43s lOd to 46s 4d; lighter do., 36s lOd to 39s 10d; prime heavy spring lambs, 39s lOd to 42s lOd; medium do., 36s 4d to 37s 4d; light do., 32s. lOd to 34s lOd; prime woolly hoggetsfi. 37s lOd to 49s ld; lighter do., 31s 4d to 35s lOd; prime shorn hoggets, 4-2s 4d; five-year ewes with b.f. lambs at foot, all counted, 28s 4d.
