Fraser (actingsecretary) . Mr. w. Trueman was appointed returning officer for the forthcoming election. The foreman (Mr. W. Kruse) reported on activity and work done during the month. A letter was received from Mr. H. Whitlow, who wrote„ on behalf of Mrs. M. Woods, asking the board to request Mr. N. I. Easton to lower the pipes through his road to give adequate drainage. Mr. Easton said that the drainage was now better than ever before, and he could not agree to lowering the pipes. The letter was received. The Manawatu-Oroua River Board wrote asking the board foreman to look after the main drain floodgate, as the river board had no one to look after the gates properly, and they were being neglected. It was stated that the drainage board had instructed. the foreman to top up No. 3 gate, and it would like it kept shut. It would not be possible for the river board engineer to inspect the gates until Febrbary during the dry season. It was decided to notify the river board that the drainage board' was pleased to hear that the board intended to put the gates in order in February, and in the meantime the foreman would be instructed to inspect the gates from time to time but the drainage board would not accept any responsibility.
