RECENT COMPETITION GAMES There was a good muster of players on the Buckley golf links last weekend, play being confined to a bogey competition on Saturday. This was won by E. Homer with a score of two up on bogey. Other scores were R. Rasmussen one up, C. Stern all square, E. T. Wilson all square, d, Purcell two down and H. Karena one down. In the semi-final of the Buckley senior championship, E. T. WilSon defeated W. Stern six and five. On Sunday a fourball best ball bogey competition was played, Cards handed in were as follows: — S. Gledhill and d. Purcell four up, W. C. Higgie and A. Gledhill two up, C. Stern and C. Booker one up, W. Stern and F. Picard all square. In the "top dogs" match played over the weekend the holders, F. Picard and H. Karena, were defeated by W. C. Higgie and J. Chambers. FollOwing weekend play the handicap committee advises the following reductions in handicaps: • — E. Homer, reduced from 24 — 18 to 21 — 16; H. Karena, from 21 — 16 to 20 — 15; R. Rasmussen, from 23 — 17 to 21—16. Players are reminded that an inter-club match with Otaki will be played at Buckley tomorrow. The usual ladies' day was held on the links last Tuesday, when there was a good gathering of players. A bogey competition was played, the winner being Mrs. H. Stern with Mrs. H. Pope runnerup.
The Wellington-West Coast Ayrshire Breeders' Club will hold its 5th annual show and sale of pedigree Ayrshire bulls and heifers at the showgrounds, Palmerston North, on Tuesday, October 7, 1947. The sale this year has attracted the splendid entry of thirty bulls and twentyone heifers, all selected lots from well-known breeders on the West Coast, and the whole entry has been inspected by the club's inspection committee prior to lots being accepted. The majority of the
bulls are in the A.A. or A classification and butterfat produetion will be a strong feature in the pedigrees throughout the catalogue. This sale will afford farmers interested in the Ayrshire breed a splendid opportunity of acquiring herd sires of undoubted quality and females with production ability.
