Tlie discoverer of peiiicillin, Su* Alexander Fleming, speakirig at the Pharmaceutical College, London, said niany strauge stories had been told about the origiit of his discoverv. The truth was, however, that he found that a blue mould which had accidentaiiy formed on a culture plate of bacteria, was destroying tlie bacteria. He noticed this C{uite casually, then became inter ested and finallv found that the mould formed a powerful non-poisonons antiseptic whioh. he nanied penieillin.
