AUCKLAND, Oct. 3. In (ino of Ihe biggest .raids in receui years, 12 dctectives and metubers >r unifonu braueh went to four Chiiiese promise.s in Grey's Avenue this aflernoon and interrupted games timi were in progress. Tliirty-tliree (,'hinese later were taken by van to the CentrnJ Police Station where a special Oouri sitting was lield. The police party went in a van tr the t'oot of Grey's Avenue and from tliere they walked in groups of tluee tc Ghinese preniises. The groups entered the buildings ' simultalieously. No foree was needed. The police simph opened the front doors and walked in The Ghinese gathered around the tables aceepted the situation .cairn lv and there was verv little eommotion bet'ore tliev were ushered out on to the street and iuto tlie waiting van. Four trips were neeessary before the inen were all delivered. Tt. is understood about £S00 was found on the tables in the preinises. The Ghinese appeared before Jus tices of ihe Peace at the police station Eight were charged with keeping eoru mon ganiing houses and the remaindei were charged with being found in common ganiing houses. They were re xnanded on bait until Mon(|ay.
