Thjs figure is only £16, 7s 3 d short of the town and district's quota, which is assessed on the hasis of 3s 9d for each of its 1423 households. Commenting on the campaign, the postmaster, Mr. L. A. Whitham, said the sale of £218 worth of stamps on the opening day had aet, a new first day "record. He paid tribute to the work of members of the Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce, who had sold stamps to the value of £78 17s 3d to business houses. Under the organisation of the Mayoress, Mrs. H. B. Burdekin, a eommittee of ladies had opened a saies booth outside the post office yesterday morning, said Mr. Whitham. By noon their saies totalled £5 14s. He expressed thanks to Messrs. W. M. Clark, Ltd., who had donated the linen for the campaign sign erected on the post ofiice building.
