STRUCK HIS SISTER
MAORI IN COURT ON ASSAULT CHARGE Charged with assaulting his sister, Mrs. w. Williams,- Tamati Hetariki, labourer, of B.each Road, Levin, was fined £2 and ordered to take out a prohibition order by the magistrate, Mr. A, M. Goulding, SM„ in the Magistrate's Court, Levin,- yesterday . Sergeant W. Grainger told the court that Hetarfifi lived with his sister and brother-in-Jaw. On September 19 an argument developed over who had left a gate open, through which. defendant's horse had wandered. Defendant had gone into, town and on his return he had seen the horse wandering on the road. He had entered the house and accused his sister qf leaving the gate open. She had denied doing so, stating that she had found it open and left it that way. Defendant had struck her on the face. Her busband intervened and an argument followed, during which he. had again struck his sister. Defendant was now rather ashamed of his action, and had said drink had been the caitse, In reply to a question from the magistrate, Sergeant Grainger- said that defendant had previous eonvictions in regard to liquor.
