MANAWATU RIVER EROSION

SERIOUS TROUBLE FREDICTED Speaking at a meeting .of the Moutoa Drainage Board on Monday evening, Mr. W. H. Smith said that there was evidence today that the erosion which had taken place in the Manawatu River. was becoming more serious and' working back : up the river. This, in his opinion, was due to the increased velocity attributable to the -operation of the Taupunga and Whirokino cuts. The water is now hitting earlier and harder on the natural bends in the river, and will soon be causing serious trouble in the Makerua district.
