THREAT TO MOUTOA FARMERS
CONCERN FELT OVER GAP IN STOPBANK The chairman of the Moutoa Drainage Board (Mr. S. W. Barber) , reporting to members of the board at their meeting on Monday evening, stated that he had eonferred with Messrs. F. W. Vickerman and L. Wilson, of the Max Plan Committee, coneerning the gap in the stopbanking at Moutoa, and had ascertained that the committee was not interested in banking the gap. Mr. N. I. Easton considered the position was most unsatisfactory, and held that something should be done in the matter. • By leaving the gap open, he said, it was equivalent to having • another spillway open. It was decided to write to the Manawatu-Oroua River Board, asking what action it was taking as the gap prqsented a severe threat to the farmers of the lower Moutoa.
