Shannon's Fire Station The future of the local fire station was again discussed at the council meeting on Tuesday evening, when, in reply to a question, the town clerk (Mr. J. T. Bovis) stated that he was waiting for a .visit from the district engineer of the Railways Department with regard to the use of ten fqet of railway property for extending the present building. Until the engineer visited the town plans for altering •the building to house the new engine would remain at a standstill. Sealing of Grey Street There is every indication that a long-felt want, that of a good road to connect with the ShannonMangaore highway, will soon be a f act. At the fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council on Tuesday evening, the chairman of the works committee (Cr. R. R. Lind) reported that three copies of plans and estimates for foundation . work, priming coat and sealing coat had been forwarded to the district engineer of the Main Highways Board for the work of making Grey Street an ideal road. Cr. Lind reported that the cost of the work would be £2575. This amount would carry a Government subsidy of £3 for £1 and if the plan and

estimate were approved by the department, application would be made to the Main Highways Board to advance the borough's share of the work spread over a term of years. It is understood that the work of sealing the ShannonMangaore \ highway will be commenced shortly.
