SHANNON CRICKET CLUB

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The annual general 'meetirig of the Shannon Cricket' Club,' which was held in the fire brigade meeting room last week, was not well attended, only ten members b'eing present. ' ' Following the presentation of the balance sheet, the following officers were ' elected for the coming season: — President: Mr. A. Seaton; secretary-treasurer: Mr. C. Mortimer; delegates to the Horowhenua Cricket Association: Messrs. T. Roach, C. Mortimer and V. E. Hppler. It was resolved that all members of the club be appointed to the management committee. Mr1. V. E. Tippler was appointed club captain. The following were elected as vice-presidents : Messrs. L. Lincoln, E. Smith, W. Clough, H. Curran, W. Karews, R. Vinsen, V. Bateman, H. Kane, R. Herbert, F. Peach, R. Shields, A. McEwen, A. Lee, T. Harrison, R. R: Lind, H. Beatson and L. Wilson. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr. W. Clayton, the club's patron. All present expressed their personal regret at losing such a keen follower of the spoi't. ' Oh the motion of Mr. Tippler it was resolved that Mr. J. A. Roach be asked to accept the position of patron of the club. After some discussion regarding the condition of the domain, it was decided to write to the council asking if there was any possible chance of that body having the ground put in playing condition. It was also decided to contact the football club with regard to the removal of the goal-posts now that the football season was completed. Members agreed that a working bee should be held on the domain on October 5 to carry" out necessary work on the playing field. On the motion of Mr. Tippler, it was resolved that the subscriptions be £1 if paid before the beginning of the season. . Otherwise a charge of 2s will be made for each playing Saturday. Junior subscriptions are to remain at 7s 6d. It was .agreed that the club would not enter a "B" grade team unless there was a "B" grade competition. In order to give encouragement to the players, it was decided.. to present a medal to the most improved player over the coming season. . All present agreed that the club should do everything- in its power to arrange more friendly games this season, and as a commencement it was deCi'ded to write to the Foxton Club with regard to the playing of a match some Saturday before the commencement of the season. Prior to the closing of the meeting it was decided to hold a meeting on Wednesday, October i5, to discuss the rules and umpiring.
