UNIQUE DISTINCTION FOR NEW ZEALANDER
TIMARU, Sept. 12. A unique distinetion has been epnferred upon the Rev. Kennetlj Schollar, of St. Stephen's Parish, Fairlie, as he has recei\ ed advice that he has been grqnted admission to the "Eorseth Kernow", the society of Cornish bards, membership of which is open only to those who are competent in the Cornish tongue.' Mr. Schollar thus becomes tlie first bard in New Zealand, thore being only three other members outside Britain. The society keeps alive«afid up to date the ancient Celtic language which, as a vernaeular, hds been replaced by Englisli for more tharj two eenturies. Mr. Schollar has been given fhe bardic name of "Lee and Dvghon Pell", which means " Voiee of the Far South", and was invested as ■uicli in absentia at the annual Gorsedd leld at Launceston oh August 30.
