WORK ON THE CHATEAU AND WAIRAKEI HOTEL

WELLINGTON, Sept. 10. The general manager of the Government Tourist Department, Mr. L. J. Schmitt, stated today that the department was trying to get sections of the Chateau Tongariro and Wairakei Hotel ready for the public by Christmas, but nothing definite could be said about the date of their opening. The difficulty in obtaining labour and housing priorities tended to crowd the work out at natonal park resorts, he said. Sufficient bookings were on hand to fill both hotels several times over.
