ENGINE DRIVER ON THEFT CHARGE
The raiiway locomotive driver' wlio was arrested when a party of detec tives raiued his house on Friday and seized a large quantity of allegedly pillaged goods, appeared in the Magi? trate 's Court before Mr. D. F. Smillie, J.P, on Saturday morning charged with the theft at Palmerston North or. August 20 of 12 golf clubs, goif bagand two umbrellas to a total value ot £85, being property in the possession of Jiis einployers, the New Zealand Kailwavs Department. The aceused was Spencer Cuthbert Toon, aged 48 years. of 75 Bryani Street, married with two children' Senior-Detective O. Power asked for ■, reniand until September 15, and thn application was granted. A reqhest that bail, if allpwed, should be substantial because prdfperty to the value of many hundreds oi' pounds was involved, was made by Mr Power when Mr. G. Kells, counsel for Tocn, applied for bail. * Bail in the sums of self £200 and one surety of £200 was granted by thc, Bench.
