In falling the battery apparently short circuited as it touched metal and a spai'k ignited the white spirit vapour. The wooden bulkhead of the storeroom was smashed bv the explosion and the fire spread quick] y. The force of the explosion bvpassed a nearby cabin but shattered the porc.elain water filter and damaged the bulkhead in a cabin several yards down the passage. No serious structural damage xvas done to the vessel afid the cargo of fruit and produce was unharmed.
