INVEECAEGILL, Sept. 5. A unanimous decision to support the candidature of Mr. J. McKeiizie, of Seaward Downs, for the vacancy on the New Zealand Dairy Board caused by the appointment of Mr. W. G. Macartney, of Christchurch, to the Dairy Produce Marketing Commission, was made at a representative meeting of Southland dairy factories today. Mr. MeKenzie is chairman of direetors of the Seaward Downs Dairy Company, a director of the New Zealand Oo-opera-tive Marketing Association and a director of the South Island Dairy Association. About 50 per cent. of the factories in the province were represented at the meeting. This was considered to be a satisfaetory represehtation. The opinion that there was no necessity for any Government representation on the New Zealand Dairy Board, expressed by Mr. A. V. Hartley, received unanimous support. Mr. Hart.ley oointerl out the Government was renre-
sented on the Dairy Produce Marketing Commission and he said he considerefi that for that reason the control of the Dairy Board should be left entirely to ;he producers. There was no reason he could see why there' should , be a' Government aominee on the Dairy Board, said Mr. J. McKenzie. Another member in-place of the Government nominee would issist greatly with the Avork. In supporting the opiixions of Mr. Hartley and Mr. "-McKenzie, Mr. J. Johnston said that line of thought was being, expressed through the xvhole of the industry from oue end of New Zeatand to. the other. The meeting passed a resolution expressing the vjew that Government ■epresentation on the Dairy Board was not necessary and that control of the board should be left -entirely to the industry.
