Tlie.Daily Telegraph states that the Federal Government this week will cut iniports of English and American tobacco and cigarettes bv ten per cent. "There will be a tapering off of iniports oi clotli and textilos from Ameriea which last iinancial year cost £4,100,000," says the Telegraph. "This ineans less niaterial for women 's froeks. Ministers believe Britain will reduce drasticallv her exports of jewellery, fancy goods and textiles. It is probable tliere will be a ban on watches, docks, jewellery, cosmetics, fountain pens, propelling peneils, nylon stockings, costly women 's colthing, furs and eigarette lighters from America. "A cut in the importation of ears from the United States and Canada is likely but not of trucks for industrv and agriculture. It is understood that afler Januarv 1 only those who can prove thev are essential users will be allowed to buv ears. " The Sunday Sun says: "Late this year or more likely next year Australia will have, firstly stricter clothes rationing; seeondly, less cigarettes and tobacco; thirdly, fewer American filins; and, fourthly, smaller newspapers. " The newspaper earrving this prediction has 56 pages comprising a ncws section, a colour magazine, a colour comic section and a news digest. Todav's Sunday Telegraph, which is a tabloid pul> lication, has 64 pages incliiding a comic section and a news digest.
