MAY BE NO AMERICAN FILMS FOR N.Z.
WELLINGTON. August 24. Tliere would be a possibility of a eomplete sbutdown on American films for New Zealand unless some compromise was reached, said Mr. R. J. Kerridge, of Auckland, managing director of the Iverridge-Odeon Corporation, to night wlien asked what would occup if the recommendation of the Aid to Britaiu conference to increase the film hire tax on American films from 25 to 46 per cent. were implemented. Sueh a rate of tax, he added, would probably make it unprofitable for American film distributors to trade in New Zealand.
