REFUGEES WILL RESIST TO THE END
Received Monday, 11 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 24. The leader of the 1500 Jews aboard the Runnymere Park told a mass meeting aboard the ship off Alicante: "You have only a few days peace left before the decisive baitle at Hamburg. Cowards and traitors are free to land, but' we aren't afraid, and will stay aboard and resist to the end." The three ships are expected to take another ten days in reaching Hamburg. Reuter's Jerusalem correspondent says the Jews will sound the ramshorn as the signal of "dire distress" tomorrow, when a world-wide dawn to dusk fast begins to mark the shipment to Germany of the illegal immigrants. All Jews between the ages of 18 and 60 will observe the fast. Cafes and cinemas will close, but the shops will do business as usual. Reuter's reports that 45,000 Jews in the north of England will fast tomorrow. The Manchester and Salford Jewish Council has decided to call on the British Goverpment to abandon the decision to send the Jews to Germany.
