NOVEL PROPAGANDA FOR ROAD SAFETY
WELLINGTON, August 14. Organisecl on a New Zealand-wide scale with 20 Junior Chamhers oi Commerce taking part, a campaign for road safety will hegin on Monday. The campaign will last a i'ortnight and with the aid of radio, newspaper, screen advertising, poster and window displays, it is hoped to impress on motorists, pedestrians and cyclists throughout the country the. necessity of constant care on roads. Assisting the Wellington ' Junior Chamber are the Transport Department, Automohile Association ana City Council. At a ceremony to be held at the junction of Mercer and Wakefield Streets, the Mayor, Mr. Appleton, will raise a road safety flag. This will be flown on a special standard throughout the campaign. Should there be no fatal road accidents during the safety fortnight, the flag will stay at the top of the mast. If a fatal accLdent occurs the flag will he lowered to half-mast and remain at half-mast throughout the following morning. Any fatal accident will also be brought to the notice oi the public through a miniature graveyard to be situated with the road safety flag. Miniature crosses will be placed at the graveyard . to mark any deaths through road accidents throughout the period.
