CHURCHILL MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP SUGGESTED At the general meeting of the Shar.non R.S.A. on Saturday evenirg a letter was received from the N.Z.R.S.A. in connection with the Churchill Memorial Fund, in which it was suggested that the public be | invited to contribute towards a scholarship as a lasting memorial to Britain's great war leader. It is felt that the population of New Zealand would be only too willing to donate ls each, and- it asked that the R.S.A. should show a lead in their respective districts. The local branch decided to discuss the matter more fully at its next general meeting, when all members are requested to attend. Also to come under discussion at the next general meeting is the question of immigration and population. The "Rangitata" left Britain on July 18 with 120 single British men and women, and the proposal is to meet any of these British people if they are allotted to this district, and bid them welcome and make them feel that they have come to a home away from home. It was pointed out that an increased population is needed in this country, both as a means of increasing the population from a point of view of defence and also improving the qountry's internal economy.
