YOUNG FARMERS' RUGBY
TOURNEY WON BY TEAM FROM HOROWHENUA The final of the seven-aside football tournament conducted by Young Fariners' Clubs, and held at Waipukurau last week, was won by Horowlienua. The team comprised G. Hudson (captain), F. Catley, T. Lancaster, J. Fanning, R. Denton, D. Campbell, S. Gimblett and R. Law (emergency). The weather was perfeet for fast open football and most of the teams were evenly matched. Eight teams entered the competition and in the first round Horowhenua defeated Central Hawke's Bay, North Hawke's Bay beat South Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa beat Manawatu and Taranaki beat Gisborne. In the second round Wairarapa beat Taranaki and Horowhenua Northern Hawke's Bay, while in •the final Horowhenua beat Wairarapa. Horowhenua's scpres were: Flrst round, 14 — 0; second round, 6 — 0; final 8 — 3. The two forwards, Denton and Campbell, hooked the hall exceptionally well, giving their backs plenty of passing rushes. Fanning, the half-back, wasted no time in getting the ball out to his fiveeighths, where Catley and Hudson were too fast for their opponents. Lancaster, a fast winger, scored one excepticnally good try, running 70 yards down the side line. Gimblett, although bustled. at times, stopped the opposing team from scoring by using his weight and speed to advantage. Though it is difficult to individualise the efforts of any particular section. the forwards had the hardest task and they executed it very well.
