SEAMAN FINED £25 FOR SMUGGLING

WELLINGTON, Aug. 1. In the Magistrate's Court today William Alfred Williams, seaman from .the Port Halifax, pleaded guilty to attempting to smuggle 270 yards of plastic fabric. He was arrested on July 26 with five'bolts of material under his arm. The Collector of Customs, Mr. J. Martin, told the court that at present there was no evidence that they were pillaged goods and until the vessel had completed discharging this fact could not be ascertained. Williams was fined £25 and costs,: in default three months' imprisonment. An order was made for the forfeiture of the goods.
