MAN FATALLY BURNT IN HOUSE FIRE

CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 1. After being admitted to Christchurch Public Hospiial early this morning suffering from burns and severe shock, received when his home was damaged by fire, a middle aged amputee of the first World War later died. He was David James Lake, aged 54, who lived alone at 153 Peterborough Street. When the firemen were called about 1.15 a.m. they found Lake lying 'uh'consci6ufe"bh the floor'" of the kitchen. He was half dressed and it appeared that he had been making an effort to get out of the house, but had been overcome by smoke.
