2ND N.Z.E.F. ASSOCIATION'S PROTEST
WELLINGTON, Aug. 1. A una'nimous protest against the selection of two ex-servicemen of the first World War to represent New Zealarid at the Empire conference of ex-servicemen in London was made at the conference of the Second N.Z.E.F. Association yesterday. The delegates also protested against such appointments being made without the association being consulted. Mr. j. Jephson, of Auckland, stated that both men selected had been the N.Z.R.S.A. representatives and the Government had met all their transportation and other expenses. The Dominion president, Mr. K. H. Melvin, said he would not like it to get abroad that there was any suggestion "of sour grapes on our part in the sending of these retreads abroad." The association had suggested Major-General Kipr penberger, who was not a member of the association, as a suitable representative, and Lieut.-Colonel Awatere, who had only recently joined the association, would have been a good choice. "There is no idea of pushing representatives of the association into the delegation. This is a question of principle not of personalities," said Mr. Melvin.
