CONCERT AND DANCE

FUNCTION AT POROUTAWHAO A combi'ned concert and dance was held in the Poroutawhao Hall on Wednesday night to raise funds for the Memorial Porch, which will be built in the near future. Some very bright- entertainment was provided by the Levin Municipal Band under the baton of Mr. G. R. Lester. Although all the pieces played were very good, the march, "The March of the Herald," and selection, "Royal Windsor," were very well played and were a credit to the band. Two bandsmen entertained the audience with solos, Mr. Lester with a cornet solo and Mr. A. Dowd, a mouth organ solo. Other supporting artists were: Mrs. G. Hesp (vocalsolo) , Mr. R.. Penny (pianoforte solo) , Mr. T. Shortt ' (tap-dance) and Mr. W. A. Penny (violin solo) . A very good sketch Was presented by Mrs. W. Benning, Junr., and Mrs. W. L. Stanley. After supper the floor was cleared and an informal dance commenced with -Mr. W. A. Penny as M.C.
