WOMEN'S DIVISION

ohau branch's JULY meeting Adverse weather had an effect on the attendance at the July meeting. of the Ohau branch of the Women 's DiVision of Feder$,ted Farmers, the number present being smaller than usual. Those present had the pleasure of listening to a talk on "Backyard Poultry-keeping" by Mr. Goldsmith, of the poultry division o'f the Department of Agriculture. This was most interesting and instructive. Mrs. Burt and Mrs. Guer'in had charge of two competitions. One "the best flower in my garden," was won by Miss Catley with a spray of luculia. The other, the. prettiest cup and saucer, went to Mrs. Burt. This compqtition made a colourful and tasteful display. Both were] decided by popular vote. A third 1 competition was won by Mrs. W. A. McLeavey. Many garments were handed in for CORSO and these will be sent to the disirict committee. Produce was collected for a stall in Wellington to help defray the expenses of the division's Dominion conference, which is being held this month. A sketch, "Goodbye," presented by Mrs. W. G. Benning and Miss Trim, caused much ' merriment. During the afternoon the presi.dep^, Mrs, J, fA.,.Kilsby, handed-- apaua shell brooch to Mrs. Hudson for her daughter as a token of appreciation for work Miss Hudson had done for the branch. The hostesses were Mesdames Candy, Guerin, Honore and Hudson. Next month the branch celebrates its thirteenth birthday.
