AUCKLAND, July 13. Several tons of spoil slipped away from a clift face during the lioavy rain on Saturday night and erashed into the West End Rowing Club's two storey clubhouse on the foreshore of St. Mary's Bay causing damage estimated at £1500. An extension of about 25 feet to the lower floor of wooden building at the base of the cliF, collapsed under the impact of clay, rocks and tree stumps and seven of the club's boats were destroyed. A small shower room extension on tlie second floor was carried away and the foundations of the building were displaced. The craft destroyed were two eight oar boats, a practice four, a racing pair, a Gladstone skiff and two single scullers. This loss represents about 75 per cent of the value of the club 's plant. The club is now left with six boats but tlie best of its equipment has gone. Not only will the western end of the building have to be rebuilt but eXtensive repairs niay have to be made to the main section because of the damage to the foundations.
