WELLINGTON, July 11. Woollen piece goods are still to be available from the United Kingdom for export to New Zealand, said the Minister of Tndustries and Commerce (Mr. Nordmeyer) todav. The Minister said following statements attributcd to local importers to the ell'ect that the British authorities were prohibitiiig the export of woollen piece goods to other tlian hard currency countries, he immediately cabled London for clariiication. He was pleased to state that the reply just received indicates that the Board of Trade advises that although tho United Kingdom manufacturers liad been advised of the need for increased export to hard currency countries there had been no prohibition of export to otlrer countries. t, 1 "It is, therefore, open to importers in New Zealand to negotiate for their share of manufactuiers ' approved export quantities," said the Minister, who added that it appeared that local importers would have to press for suppiics through normal trade channels to secure a share of the British export quota as had been the case in-the past.
