DRAINAGE BOARD WARNS SETTLERS

A warnrng to settlers in the Makerua drainage district against •the practice of allowing debris to become lodged in the. drain was given at the monthly meeting of the Makerua Drainage Board this week. In his report the overseer, Mr. P, V. Tucker, stated that since the recent flood had subsided the clearihg of outlets and drains had been attended to. Included in the debris collected at the intersecting ifloodgates was the skinned carcas.e ,of a cow. He issued a warning to j settlers against the practice of 'allowing carcases to become lodged . in the drains, as they might cause ;a blockage and with a rise in the !river further flooding would be the i outcome. I "It is a danger to the whole area |if anything large becomes lodged 'in the floodgate," commented the chairman, Trustee J. D. Aitchison. 1 "I think that ihe settlers should be , warned of the seriousness of this matter. They should see that nothing likely to block the flood gates becomes lodged in the channels."
