WELLINGTON, July 7. ^ A slight change of plans in the hydroelectric development of Lake Waikaremoana may make it unnecessary to lower the lake to any great extent, as was previously expeeted., The intake o± the tunnel leading th.rough the rim ot the lake to the Kaitawa power station may be established iat' its lowest point within- the next month or two, instead of possibly having to wait for years; Efforts are being made to eomplete the task as soon as possible. This has been made praeticable by the rising of the lake, making it unnecessary to provide an outlet below the level at wlucn the siphons eease to be effeetive, and by the delay in the delivery of the governor ±pr the flrst unit at Kaitawa. Thi» station cannot now come into use for several inonth»: * : While the change of plans may make it unnecessary to lower Lake Waikaremoana to establish the ihtake, the proolem of sealing the leaks from the lake •will still remain. These leaks have an been located and methods are availaDie for filling them.
