FOURTH OF JULY DEATHS
Received Monday, 8.25 p.m, NEW YORK, July 6. The nation-wide toll of violent deaths for the three day * ' Fourth of July" weekend totalled 534 to midnight, of whom 244 were through traffic smashes, 158 through drownings, 125 through miscellaneous causes and seven through fixeworks. The highest death roll in the last 20 years for a Fourth of July weekend occurred in 1941 when 628 were • killed. The Herald-Tribune, in an editorial on highway accidents, says: "There are too many people behind a steering wheel who have no business there."
