The function was held in the Druids' Hall and over 100 were present to enjoy ,a bright programme interspersed with dances. The band, under the baton of Mr. G. R. Lester, opened the prograrrtme and the contributing artists Wete Mts. G. Hesp (vocal solos), Mf. L. R. Spencer (violin solos), Miss Margaret Mungavin (elocutionary items), Mr. W. A. Strode-Penny (one-string fiddle), Mr. R. Weaver ("How to Catch Crocodiles"), Miss C. Dobson (Irish jig), Mr. e. Lacey (euphonium solo) and Mr. G. R. Lester (cornet solo). Mr. A. The band yras fortunate in having sueh 1 a willing band of workers behind it, continued Mr. Nelson, as, apart from carolling at Christmas, the street and shop day was the only time it appealed for funds. "I am going to ask you all to be present at the Council Chambers next Tuesday evening, when a meeting will be held to make arrangements for this year's effort. To our artists tonight I extend grateful thanks, and also to the representatives of the Horowhenua Pipe and Foxton Bands, whom we are very pleased to have with us. Tomorrow afternoon the band will render a programme in the Public Gardens, while in the very near future an after-church concert of appropriate items will be given in the Regent Theatre. There will be no charge for admission at this concert," concluded Mr. Nelson. A delicious supper was served by. the bandsmen under the control of Mr. -A. Hesp, who had made the kitchen out of bounds for all members of the gentler sex. Dancing continued to nearly midnight, the function terminating with xfie singing of Auld Lang Syne.
